Longview Police Shoot and Kill Woman who Pointed a Gun at Them

Bodycam Release Date 1/24/2024 Longview, WA - The Lower Columbia Major Crimes Team has reported that a woman was fatally shot by Longview Police on 1/1/2024 after she aimed a gun at them in the early hours of Monday morning. The incident unfolded when authorities received a distress call just before 5 a.m. regarding a man who claimed that a woman was both attempting suicide and had physically assaulted him at an apartment in Longview. Upon arriving at the scene, officers safely evacuated the man from the premises. However, moments later, the woman emerged from the apartment and brandished a handgun, prompting three police officers to open fire. Tragically, the woman, identified as 29-year-old Katelynn Rose Smith from Longview, succumbed to her injuries and passed away at the location.
