Government shut down would close Sanibel wildlife refuge

The J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge closed the last time the government shut down in 2014 - and it's preparing for that prospect again. Businesses that rely on the refuge for business, such as a Sanibel boat rental and tour operator, would likely have to lay off dozens of employees during a possible shutdown.
