Alpena Couty See's Higher Than Normal Unclaimed Bodies For 2023

The Mid-Michigan Medical Examiner Group handled an unusual number of unclaimed bodies in Alpena County last year, according to the group's 2023 annual report.

According to the report, the group had to handle four unclaimed bodies that were never claimed by the next of kin. In 2022, the report showed only one body was not claimed.

The Mid-Michigan Medical Examiner Group said they have not seen this money unclaimed bodies since 2020 with Covid.

If no one claims the bodies, the cremated remains stay with the medical examiner’s office until a plot of land in which to bury the deceased is donated.
