Palestinian officials have issued a serious warning about health conditions in the besieged Gaza Strip, saying its inhabitants are prone to contracting various types of water-borne diseases.

According to Palestine's Environmental Quality Authority, 66 percent of people in Gaza suffer from cholera, chronic diarrhea, and intestinal diseases due to the lack of drinkable water. It said Israel's relentless strikes have knocked the territory’s water desalination plants out of service. The authority added that the regime’s bombing of sewage lines has led to an environmental catastrophe in Gaza. Meanwhile, the U-N Humanitarian Coordinator for Palestine says Israel has added insulin pens for children to the list of prohibited items that are not allowed into Gaza. Jamie McGoldrick said a large number of goods and equipment needed to improve the territory’s sanitation have been also banned by Israel.
