The aviation industry is working towards fully autonomous aircraft, with a focus on improving the overall safety of flight operations.
Aurora Flight Sciences, an aerospace company, demonstrated the capabilities of a robotic co-pilot in a simulated Boeing 737-800NG. The robotic co-pilot, part of the ALIAS (Aircrew Labor In-Cockpit Automation System) program, showcased its ability to virtually fly and land the aircraft using in-cockpit machine vision, robotic components to actuate the flight controls, and a tablet-based user interface.
