It was sad that President Zachary Taylor ( November 24, 1784 – July 9, 1850) Zachary Taylor only served in the White House from 1849 to his death in 1850. July 4, 1850, Taylor reportedly consumed copious amounts of cherries and iced milk while attending holiday celebrations, days later he became severely ill with an unknown digestive ailment initially resembling acute gastroenteritis. Fever ensued and Taylor's chance of recovery was small. On July 8, Taylor had said to a medical attendant:

"I should not be surprised if this were to terminate in my death. I did not expect to encounter what has beset me since my elevation to the Presidency. God knows I have endeavored to fulfill what I conceived to be an honest duty. But I have been mistaken. My motives have been misconstrued, and my feelings most grossly outraged." Our 12th President most likely died of Cholera.
Fort Taylor (named after our 12th President Zachary Taylor), Key West, Florida
The fort was built between 1845 and 1866 of solid New England granite and ancient, impenetrable limestone, Fort Taylor originally was a three-tier structure with cannons and was used from the Civil War all the way to the brink of nuclear war during the 1960's. What is strange is that while the fort had plenty of guns – 165 – they were never fired except for practice. The fort played an important role in World War I and II and again in the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. January 22, 2024 Key West, Florida www.mefoundation.world
