Fort Taylor, Key West, Florida
The fort was built between 1845 and 1866 of solid New England granite and ancient, impenetrable limestone, Fort Taylor originally was a three-tier structure with cannons and was used from the Civil War all the way to the brink of nuclear war during the 1960's. What is strange is that while the fort had plenty of guns – 165 – they were never fired except for practice. The fort played an important role in World War I and II and again in the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. January 22, 2024 Key West, Florida www.mefoundation.world
