SOG Flare, an Auto Assist Budget EDC Folding Knife

This is a complicated review. I only do honest reviews, so there is good and bad issues from my point of view, and this is no different. SOG is a great company, they are usually high quality, and reliable knives and tools. This knife however is a struggle. #sog @SOGKnives

It has a good size, its lightweight, decent steel, good blade design, pocket clip, and its an auto assist, and that's about it.

There are less cons than pros, but some of those cons make it nearly unusable. Though my knife has no discernible play in the blade, it does have a handle that moves outwards at the pivot. The blade seems to be binding with the auto-assist mechanism there. The movement feels like its binding or dragging quite a bit. I cannot tell clearly is the pivot uses bearings or just spacers. However the more you move the blade back and forth where its binding, the blade gets warmer, and the action becomes smoother. So if you ok with a little bit of work, this could be a great knife. Also it will need to be sharpened. Mine came dull right out of the package.

On a side note, it's hard to close, and initially it was hard to open. But repeatedly opening and closing the knife, has gotten smoother and quicker, it just needs work. So if not a bad knife, just not a perfect knife, even of a budget.
