Jabez, God answers prayer.

1Ch 4:9 And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow.
1Ch 4:10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou would bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou would keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

Jabez had some shady brothers?

Something happened at His birth that caused his mother great pain, perhaps it was a very difficult birth or maybe someone died, perhaps his father?

Jabez life was not going well, seems like he had two strikes against him from birth, so he reached out to the only on who could help him, God.

He asked for more land and opportunities, he wasn't afraid of hard work?

He asked God to bless what ever he put his hand to do?

Isa 41:13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Lastly He asked God to keep him from evil because he knew it would bring pain and suffering to his life.

Perhaps he saw what sin had done to his family during his childhood and the effects it still had on his shady brothers?

He wanted God to protect him from himself?
