Ice Damage, Leaks, Overcoming Struggles, & Radio Practice
In this weeks video, we tackle some construction with our friends from Wisconsin, fix trussing and install a fan with our neighbor, play with radios, and handle the difficult situation of ice damage to our building.
A huge shout out to @WernerLadderCo for your support!
In the video titled "Upgrades, Fixes, Construction, Oh My! | Ice Damage, Leaks, Overcoming Struggles, & Radio Practice," Ryan from Back Roads Homesteading shares updates on various projects and challenges faced on their homestead. Significant progress was made in Link's room, with assistance from Eric and Jenny from Wisconsin who helped in installing drywall, boards, insulation, and a vapor barrier. A neighbor aided in fixing a broken truss and installing a new overhead light with a fan in the barn.
Ryan discusses the unexpected issue of ice accumulation on the roof, a problem they hadn't anticipated after relocating from Wisconsin to Arkansas. This led to ice sheets forming and falling, potentially damaging the roof and causing leaks. He expresses frustration with the oversight by both himself and the contractors in preparing for this.
Throughout the video, Ryan reflects on the constant challenges of homesteading, ranging from equipment malfunctions to weather-related issues. Despite these setbacks, he remains determined to overcome these obstacles. Friends from Wisconsin visit to help with insulation and drywall, but their work is hampered by leaking caused by the melting ice.
Additionally, Ryan showcases their efforts in practicing radio communication using a shortwave radio, an important skill for emergency situations. This practice is particularly challenging due to solar flares causing interference. The video concludes with gratitude for the support they've received, including a 20ft ladder from Werner, and Ryan encourages viewers to like, share, and subscribe for more updates.
