Original poem-

Part I

You say I have no future
Though I’ll tell you what that means
A future without you, where I can live as a human being
I know I’m far from perfect, but a man with many flaws
I have every right for happiness despite the trouble I caused
You remind me that I’m useless
Put me down when I’m depressed
Keep cutting at my deepest wounds
Now my heart it feels regret
Though here I still stand by you, knowing things won’t change
I’ve always been forgiving, too weak to walk away
I wish it could be different, but now I realise it’s too late
We’ve had nine long years together
This bleeding heart it needs a break
It’s fair to say we’re both at fault
Though I’m left to feel the shame
Wouldn’t it be easier if you also took the blame?
It’s time responsibility was taken from both sides
It’s always been the two of us
You can’t hide behind closed eyes.

Part II

The past is but a seam of fractured memories
A fragment of time forever etched in stone
Straight from the cutting room floor
A thickening plot convoluted by concocted realities
Conceptualised by the shameless ego
These weightless shoulders tip the scales with no burden to bear
Wings outstretched to soar amongst the clouds of delusionary bliss.
