There are many legislations and definitions to ensure that we live in a just and upright society. The police are employed by the government to serve and protect civilians. How do you explain or define what happened to the French Footballer who was violently and brutally assaulted by three French police officers?

Why didn't legislation/definitions protect him? Why were the perpetrators only given a 12 month suspended sentence, when in Abner Louima's 1997 case, which set a similar precedent, police officer Volpe, was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment? Even the Charles Schwartz who held him down so that the assault could take place, was sentenced to 5 years in prison, without parole because the Judge felt they were a disgrace to their badges and dishonoured their Oath of Office.

Theodore Luhaka was apprehended for a stop and search, tear gassed, severely beaten around the head and body in 2017, when he was only 22 years old. He was subsequently sexually assaulted with a telescopic baton, so that he is now incontinent, and has had to have a large section of his colon removed.

Like Abner, he was severely beaten while handcuffed in the back of a police van, then led to a dirty bathroom in a prison cell, thrown down, and forcefully and angrily penetrated through the anus with a phallic shaped weapon by police officers.

This incident was reported in the Metro Newspaper on 22 January 2024, and has gone viral. Theodore now has life-long injuries because of this grievous assault by French police officer. Abner Louima had to undergo 3 surgeries - he was awarded US$8.75m in 2001.
