MOHYELDIN: “Good evening, everyone. Welcome to ‘Ayman.’ We have major breaking news this hour. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, the man once heralded as the future of the Republican Party, the so-called heir apparent to the MAGA movement, bowing out of the race for president. He suspends his campaign a short — he suspended his campaign a short-term time ago, bringing an end to one of the most embarrassing and disastrous GOP primary showings in modern American political history. The move comes just two days before New Hampshire’s primary contest where he was projected to finish well behind both former President Donald Trump and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley. DeSantis opted not to break the news on the stump before his supporters who worked tirelessly for weeks to try and keep his campaign alive one way or the other. Instead, he ended his Never Back Down campaign, literally that it’s what it’s — what it’s called, on Twitter. And threw his support behind the man he has spent so many years working to emulate.”

DeSantis: “If there was anything I could do to produce a favorable outcome, more campaign stops, more interviews, I would do it. But I can’t ask our supporters to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory. Accordingly, I am today suspending my campaign. Trump is superior to the current incumbent Joe Biden. That is clear. I signed a pledge to support the Republican nominee and I will honor that pledge. He has my endorsement because we can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear, a repackage formed of warmed over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents. The days of putting Americans last, of kowtowing the large corporations, of caving to woke ideology are over.”

MOHYELDIN: “And after finishing second in Iowa on Monday DeSantis’ campaign sent mixed signals to voters, to the donors, even to lower level aides working on the campaign and creating confusion about his intentions for the rest of the race. He flew directly to South Carolina from Iowa, suggesting that his intention was to keep campaigning until the Palmetto state’s late February primary. Then, however, he over the next few days, hopscotched back and forth between South Carolina, New Hampshire and Florida and that really began to puzzle his staff and supporters. And late last night, he canceled all of his scheduled Sunday morning television appearances including NBC News’s ‘Meet the Press’ as he headed back to New Hampshire. Now, indeed, De Santis’ campaign ended as it actually began with a big flop. And I mean that quite literally. The Winston Churchill quote that he posted alongside his announcement video, yeah, that was a fake, true to form Governor Ron DeSantis staying on brand, you are committed to the flop until the very end.”
