Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd Jr. (October 25, 1888 – March 11, 1957) was an American naval officer and explorer. He was a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the highest honor for valor given by the United States, and was a pioneering American aviator, polar explorer, and organizer of polar logistics.

He explored Antarctica for 25 years and I believe he and his teams discovered the Firmament, an act that spurred the creation of the Antarctic Treaty in 1959, which is the only unbroken treaty in the history of treaties, and the high-altitude nuclear tests that were conducted by both the US and Soviet Union through the early 1960s - The world's governments were trying to blast through the dome over our heads. ONLY military personnel and scientific research teams are allowed to stay in Antarctica for extended periods of time.
