We decided to start a new series and tell the real story of Russian organized crime. In the first installment, we talk about its history, ethos and beginnings - and how it transformed into what it became famous as.

The Soviet shadow economy gave birth to a whole new class of Russian criminals, and they would go on to conquer first the country, and then the world. And many of them weren't even Russians...
