Whether you know it or not, Gnosticism when applied to the scriptures the way Augustine did, and as most churches do, has led many to believe in salvation by works. Teaching that knowing a tree by its fruit means that every man is known by his works. But, the truth is that this fruit required by God has nothing to do with works.
