Mexico marks another record-breaking year for murders

For the sixth consecutive year, Mexico recorded over 30,000 murders in 2023, marking the most violent period in the country’s recent history.

Violence has emerged as a central issue in the upcoming June 2024 general election.

However, voters express a lack of confidence in the ability of the two leading presidential contenders to formulate a robust plan for addressing gang violence.

There is growing public frustration with government officials concealing murders by reclassifying them as having occurred due to an “undetermined intention,” Semafor reported.
