Pakistani retaliatory strikes in Iran kill at least 9, raising tensions along border

On Thursday, Pakistan conducted airstrikes against alleged militant hideouts inside Iran, resulting in the death of at least nine people.

This action was in retaliation for a similar attack by Iran a few days earlier. The targets on both sides of the border seemed to be Baluch militant groups with similar separatist goals.

Iran and Pakistan accuse each other of providing a haven to these groups within their respective territories.

The escalation in tensions between the two countries occurs amidst broader conflicts in the Middle East, including Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza and Iranian airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, the Associated Press reported.
