New Wierd Gaz Yankovic Project
Let’s call it “The Trauma Years”
by far the hardest chapter of my past to write the lyrics for…

So while the other songs were from the before times of playing Sonic at my cousins or Sonic 2 at my friends house- these songs are from the era after that, when I was gifted a hand-me-down Sega MasterSystem and didn’t really have an excuse to wind up across town at a relatives house.
So I escaped into this game.

And as things got worse at home the lyrics descend deeper into my trauma and crisis as my schoolwork started to enter decline and bullying becomes a daily issue at school.
Things just keep getting worse…
So understand what I went through just to make these songs again. My lyric books were left behind on the final day I ran away from my stepdad.
So they’re mostly transcribed from memory.
In order to pull those memories I had to relive them.
It’s been a rough week.
A lot to unpack here.
