Abandoned, forgotten, ignored; just a few words Joseph could have used to describe his time over his 10+ years of struggle and hardship. His own brothers selling him as a slave, being wrongly accused and put into the Pharaoh's dungeon, and a forgotten promise leaves him there for another 2 years. Yet we see through the retelling of his story, God's hand was involved every step of the way, refining Joseph until the time was right to place him into the position God had ordained for him.
