For our third episode of Sublemonal Messaging, we are doing a Netflix film critique of Don't Look Up, written and directed by Adam McKay and released in 2021.

Don't Look Up is Netflix's 2nd most watched film, as of July 1st 2023 (measured by hours viewed within the first 28 days of release).

The story revolves around two astronomers' efforts to warn humanity about an approaching comet that symbolizes climate change (or the recent pandemic). The movie features an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Jonah Hill, and others.

Today, we'll be looking at how Netflix's film uses subtle - as well as not-so-subtle - messages to comment on gender differences, political affiliation, and society's general indifference to the alleged climate crisis.
