1996 Kansas City Chiefs at Detroit Lions (Thanksgiving)
Runs 2:05 | Nov. 28, 1996 - The Lions' had their holiday spoiled by the Kansas City Chiefs, who came away with a 28-24 win in the Lions 57th Thanksgiving Day game. The Lions' first half scoring came on a 16-yard pass from Scott Mitchell to Johnnie Morton and then Mike Wells recovered a Rich Gannon fumble (caused by Robert Porcher) in the end zone to give Detroit a 14-7 lead. Gannon connected with Chris Penn on a 17-yard scoring pass to tie the game 14-14 at halftime. Detroit re-gained the lead, 21-14, on a 13-yard TD run by Barry Sanders, but the Chiefs answered with Gannon's second TD pass to knot the score at 21-21. Jason Hanson put the Lions ahead 24-21 on a 21-yard field goal with 8:41 remaining in the game, but the Chiefs used up almost eight minutes of clock setting the stage for Allen's game-winner.
