Episode 1788: Our Purification

Purgatory. According to Catholic theology, Purgatory is a temporary state of purification for souls who have died in a state of grace but still need to be purified from the effects of their sins before entering heaven.

Catholics believe that individuals who die in a state of mortal sin go to hell, while those who die in a state of grace but with venial sins or imperfections undergo purification in Purgatory. The purification process is seen as a way to cleanse the soul and make it fit for the perfection of heaven.

Purgatory is not a punishment but a merciful opportunity for souls to be purified and attain the holiness necessary for eternal union with God. The duration of one's stay in Purgatory is not defined by the Church, and prayers, Masses, and indulgences are believed to assist the souls in their purification.
