#BootleggersDay Today is NATIONAL BOOTLEGGERS DAY! The little community I was born near was called SHINE, supposedly named that because of all the "moonshiners" back in the day! Here's some interesting facts about bootleggers:
* Bootleggers used carrier pigeons to smuggle liquor:
These feathered mailmen strapped tiny flasks to their legs and flew across borders, delivering their precious cargo with impressive efficiency
* Al Capone wasn't the only bootlegger kingpin:
Female gangsters like "Big" Bertha Coonan and Stephanie St. Clair ruled the Chicago underworld with an iron fist, proving that the booze business wasn't just for boys.
* Moonshine wasn't just for the South:
Bootlegging thrived across the entire country, with moonshine production hotspots popping up in New York, Pennsylvania, and even California
