Nine people are suspected to have been killed by the extreme winter storms sweeping across the United States, according to the Independent. Over 125 million people have been impacted by the heavy snowfall that hit the East Coast, affecting Pennsylvania, Washington DC and New York. Online reports claim that the snow fell at a rate of two inches per hour in Buffalo, New York. Schools are expected to remain closed as snow, freezing temperatures and heavy rain are tipped to rumble on in the coming days. The National Weather Service warned the public of treacherous conditions for travel and urged the masses to stay indoors where possible. The NWS reported that dangerously cold wind, which is expected in the Midwest, can cause frostbite on exposed skin and hypothermia. Temperatures are expected to moderate as early as next week.
