My author interview with historical fiction writer Sammy Beuker talked about writing meaningful prose from a personal place. Not only is she a novelist, but she is also a mother, wife, and author. Her debut novel The Unfortunate Life of Genevieve Ryder follows a woman in the aftermath of World War II, as a 22 years old in a situation that most don’t look fondly at. It follows her throughout her life and the decisions she makes. Sammy and I discuss why this book was very special to her, the significance of the setting, and how sometimes the protagonist is the antagonist.
