A powerful storm is impacting California today, bringing rain to everyone this morning with lingering rain in the mountains after lunch time into this evening. Fast winds will pick up this afternoon bringing gusts to 40-60 miles per hour in the valley, especially along the I-5 corridor. Wind gusts along the base of the Grapevine this evening could be up to 80 miles per hour this evening with mountain wind gusts 50-70 miles per hour. That will result in lowered visibility, blowing debris, downed trees and potential power outages. Though it will be a good soaking in the valley and mountains this morning, the rain intensifies overnight, bringing the threat of flash flooding to the foothills to our north and the coastal mountains. This is a serious concern in areas of recent wildfires where they could see flash flooding, debris flows, rock and mudslides. Our local mountains will see snow down to 6,000 feet tomorrow morning and there's enough rain here we could see some rockslides and mud as well.
