German farmers have descended upon Berlin to protest against rising costs and the government’s plan to gradually eliminate agricultural fuel subsidies.

Over 10,000 protesters rallied in the capital city as thousands of tractors and many other vehicles brought the capital city to a standstill.

President of the German farmer's union, Joachim Rukwied, called for the government to scrap its plans as the decision would bankrupt many farmers.

Martin, a farmer from Rugen, spoke about how farmer's issues are not heard by the government.

“They don’t hear us, they make regulations that harm every one of us, not only the farmers but everyone in this country. And we think enough is enough,” he said.

Monday’s demonstration capped off weeks of protests from farmers following the government's new tax subsidy cuts.

When the tax cuts were first announced in December last year, farmers dumped manure on the streets of Berlin.
