Thinking of moving to Nampa, Idaho but wondering what the winters are like?
The number one question I get from my clients relocating to Nampa and the surrounding area is “what are the winters like and how much snow do you get?”
Most of our winter is pretty dry, temps are in the 30’s, there is a brisk breeze but the sun is normally out keeping temps very manageable.
Let’s talk snow, we will get snow several times throughout the winter months but 90% of the time by mid day it has melted away. South facing driveways are key if you don’t want to do a lot of snow shoveling. Now there are those few times when we will get dumped on down in the valley, yet the main roads are always pretty well maintained making getting around easy enough.
Tip 1: Invest in a good winter coat, this cannot be understated. You want something that will keep you dry, warm, and hold up to the wind. A good coat makes getting outside and enjoying our winter months much easier to do.
2. Add a simple base layer like silks to your winter clothing. This will make a huge difference in your comfort level especially when the temp dips below freezing.
3. Get out and have some fun at all the local winter events. We are so blessed to have so many winter activities so close to us. Take a 60min drive to Bogus Basin for all your skiing and snowboarding adventures, outdoor ice skating, light shows, snowmobiling and more.
4. Keeping a winter emergency kit in your car is a great idea. This should have some extra water, snacks, emergency blankets, flashlights, portable power bank, fire starter, and some extra winter clothing wouldn’t hurt.
5. Create a cozy space in your home you can enjoy during the colder months. Highly recommend having a fireplace, whether it’s wood-burning, gas, pellet, or even electric, the ambience is a must for winter.
