A computer mouse detects movements through an optical or laser sensor located on its underside. As the mouse moves, the sensor captures images of the surface below, and these images are processed rapidly by the mouse's onboard processor. The processor then calculates the changes in position based on the differences between consecutive images. This information is sent to the computer, enabling the cursor to move accordingly on the screen.
