Black ice, sometimes called clear ice, is a thin coating of glaze ice on a surface, especially on streets. Understand that black ice is like regular ice.

Black Ice is a glaze that forms on surfaces (especially roads, sidewalks, and driveways) because of a light freezing rain or because of melting and re-freezing of snow, water, or ice on surfaces.

Icy road conditions are piling up cars on many interstates and side roads.

First Warn 5 Meteorologists and First Warn Traffic Reports point to a multitude of crashes, at least a dozen by 7 a.m., many believed to be weather-related.
The deteriorating road conditions have led to an onslaught of closures across the metro, dozens of schools, some government offices, and churches just to name a few.
