Winter Freeze Up - Ep. 15 January 13, 2024

As you can see we got about a foot (30 cm) of snow. It's the packie snowman making kind. The kind you can make awesome snow forts with tunnels. I doubt I'll be involved in that.
The new snow is weighing the ice sheet. I show a example of a slush pool. Often what looks to be nice dry white snow can be hiding a pool of slush just under the surface. Fortunately modern sleds don't bog down and get stuck like their forebearers did.
