Looking after creatures large and small at the SPCA

Dr. Helen Chevalier is the Chief Veterinary Officer at the SPCA Serving Erie County. She's been on the front line here for twelve years looking after creatures large and small. The Dr. says "all the animals who come in, we nurture them back to health, then they get adopted and it's usually a story that ends very well." She grew up in France and always loved animals. She thought about being a veterinarian but was afraid it might be too difficult. Her grandfather convinced her otherwise. She explains "He said Helen, you can do whatever you want if you put your heart into it." Over the years Dr. Chevalier has faced some challenging cases like Lazarus, the dog that was so starved he literally had to be brought back from death's door and Roxy, also a dog, who was burned in a house fire. Both of those stories ended with the dogs getting well. With the new state of the art facility Dr. Chevalier has high hopes that they will be able to have many more success stories in the years to come.
