Kinesins are ATP-dependent motor proteins that transport cargo along microtubules, typically from the center of the cell to the periphery (anterograde transport, walking towards the plus end of a microtubule).

They are contrasted with dyneins which are motor proteins that engage in retrograde transport, walking towards the minus end of a microtubule.
