In Part 3 of the Tyre Nichol’s series, Eliseo Medina and Jared delve into the issue of how young men in society lack discipline due to absent male role models. They discuss how the book Lord of the Flies exemplifies what can happen when those without supervision are left to their own devices. They press the importance of parental discipline but emphasize why we need to encourage respect rather than physical abuse.

Our society needs to do a better job encouraging appropriate behavior in children. Without the proper guidance, children left to their own devices can easily resort to animalistic instincts. Unfortunately, many children are growing up in single-parent households without a father figure to teach them how to behave.

It is important for parents to teach their children how to act in a respectful manner. Parents have the right to discipline their children to a point that does not result in child abuse. It is also key for parents to set a good example for their children. If parents are not exhibiting appropriate behavior, then their children will not learn how to behave properly.

By teaching children how to behave properly, we can create a more respectful and peaceful society.

Eliseo Medina is a Senior Intelligence Police Officer of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia, with over 30 years of experience in law enforcement. He was born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Puerto Rico, where his family had ties to the police department and military.
