On May 1, 1989, Vicki Polin who went by the name 'Rachel' appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and told the world her Jewish family was part of a Satanic cult that dates back to the 1700s.

From Oprah Winfrey's show:
"As a child, my next guest was used also in worshipping the devil and participated in human sacrifice rituals and cannibalism. She says her family has been involved in rituals for generations."

The show also evoked protests from hundreds of viewers and the leaders of several Jewish and "civil liberties" organizations. After a meeting with Jewish leaders in Chicago organized by the CEO of Harpo Inc., Oprah vowed never again to broadcast a show on devil worship. She agreed to reach out to B’nai B’rith, which fights anti-Semitism and racism, whenever her show focused on those subjects, and she promised to exercise better "judgment" in selecting her guests.
