Does the Meade 46-1 School Board New Recording Policies Violate State Law?
We recorded the public comment portion of the Meade 46-1 school board meeting in December according to State Law. At the next meeting in January, the school board chair read some new policies they didn't read at the previous meeting. We're not sure, but it sounds like they could be flirting with violating state law 1-25-11. Recording of open official meeting to be permitted.
"No public body may prevent a person from recording, through audio or video technology, an official meeting as long as the recording is reasonable, obvious, and not disruptive. This section does not apply to meetings closed to the public pursuant to specific law."
We don't see anywhere in that law where they can use the reasoning they listed as a means to not allow and also remove a person who is recording their meetings. Do you?
