US Secretary of State Antony Blinken meets with Palestininan leader Mahmoud Abbas

The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is meeting Palestininan leader Mahmoud Abbas before flying out to Cairo on the last leg of his Middle East visit. Blinken is expected to discuss the future of Gaza with Abbas, who is the President of the Palestinian Authority. Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Jamjoom, reporting from Ramallah where Blinken is scheduled to meet Abbas, says, “There are a lot of expectations from this meeting.” “But the last time Blinken was here in Ramallah to meet Abbas, very little came out of the meeting,” says Jamjoom.
The US has proposed the Palestinian Authority, which Abbas heads, take a leadership role in Gaza after the end of the war. However, “one challenge facing Abbas and other officials is that there is such a high level of distrust facing him and the Palestinian Authority” from Palestinians, added Jamjoom.
