Hagia Sophia: A Symbol of Time and Faith

The Hagia Sophia, often referred to as Ayasofya in Turkish, is an architectural masterpiece that has stood as a testament to the passage of time and the convergence of cultures. Commissioned by the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I, construction of the Hagia Sophia began in 532 AD and was completed in 537 AD. The architects, Anthemius of Tralles and Isidore of Miletus, achieved a groundbreaking feat with its massive dome, which was considered an engineering marvel of its time. Originally built as an Eastern Orthodox cathedral, the Hagia Sophia became the principal church of the Byzantine Empire.
