According to an undisclosed source, Wink Martindale is expected to step down from his position as defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. Reports suggest that his strained relationship with coach Brian Daboll was the main factor in his departure. Despite their issues, Daboll initially stated that he expected Martindale and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka to stay, but after some discussions, Martindale tendered his resignation. The Giants have also let go of several other coaches, including the special teams coordinator and the outside linebackers coach. Despite the team's disappointing performance this season, Martindale's defense was still able to tie for the league lead in takeaways. Martindale, a 60-year old coordinator, is expected to receive offers from other teams looking to hire a coordinator or even a head coach.
