The Bridge Creek-Moore tornado occurred on May 3, 1999, as part of a severe weather outbreak in central Oklahoma. It was an EF5 tornado, the most severe category on the Enhanced Fujita scale. The tornado's path spanned approximately 38 miles (61 km), causing extensive damage, especially in the towns of Bridge Creek and Moore.The 318 mph (512 km/h) wind speed was measured by mobile Doppler radar, making it the highest recorded tornado wind speed to date. The tornado resulted in 36 fatalities and numerous injuries. The destruction prompted advancements in tornado prediction and warning systems to enhance public safety.
