Mark Moseley's 44-yard field goal with 43 seconds remaining settled the see-saw affair which featured 963 yards in total offense by both teams. Detroit's 499-yard effort was fashioned by Billy Sims' 159 rushing yards, Eric Hipple's 282 passing yards, and Freddie Scott's 156 yards receiving. But the Lions lost three fumbles and suffered three interceptions, plus rookie Mark Nichols' 48-yard reception fell two yards short of a TD on the game's final play.
