Jesus is the Guarantor, Assurance, Power, Source, and the Mediator of a Better Covenant.
Pastor Martin Saine continues in Chapter 7, which focuses on the superiority of Jesus as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek. Hebrews 7:17-19 emphasizes the weakness and unprofitableness of the former commandment, saying that the law made nothing perfect and it delves into the concept of completeness through the law, contrasting it with the introduction of a better hope through Jesus, allowing believers to draw near to God.
Heb 7:17 For He testifies: "YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK."
Heb 7:18 For on the one hand there is an annulling (cancellation) of the former commandment because of its weakness and unprofitableness,
Weakness = G772 ἀσθενής, asthenēs, as-then-ace'
From G1 (as a negative particle) and the base of G4599; strengthless (in various applications, literally, or figuratively and morally): - more feeble, impotent, sick, without strength, weak (-er, -ness, thing).
Unprofitableness = G512 ἀνωφέλες, anōpheles, an-o-fel'-ace
From G1 (as a negative particle) and the base of G5624; useless or (neuter) inutility: - unprofitable(-ness).
Heb 7:19 for the law made nothing perfect; "made nothing perfect" =
G5048 -τελειόω, teleioō, tel-i-o'-o
From G5046; to complete, that is, (literally) accomplish, or (figuratively) consummate (in character): - consecrate, finish, fulfill, (make) perfect.
G3762 οὐδείς, oudeis, oo-dice'; Including the feminine οὐδεμία oudemia
oo-dem-ee'-ah and the neuter οὐδέν ouden oo-den'
From G3761 and G1520; not even one (man, woman or thing), that is, none, nobody, nothing: - any (man), aught, man, neither any (thing), never (man), no (man), none (+ of these things), not (any, at all, -thing), nought.
In all of history, how many people were made complete by the Law?
On the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near (James 4:8) to God.
"the bringing in" = G1898 ἐπεισαγωγή, epeisagōgē,ep-ice-ag-o-gay'
From a compound of G1909 (epi- superimposition) and G1521; (eisago- to introduce) a super introduction: - bringing in.
To superimpose means to lay one item over another in a manner that both items are clearly seen.
"The soul that sins shall die" but if that soul shall confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in his heart that God raised Him from the dead, he shall be saved.
Mat 5:17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
Mat 5:18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
Bringing in- "Super Introduction", is only used one time in Scripture!
Heb 7:19 for the law made nothing perfect; (Requirement, Penalty for missing the mark, Temporary covering until something permanent came) on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near (James 4:8) to God.
Jesus, our great high priest, vastly superior to the Aaronic priesthood:
Heb 7:20 And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath
Heb 7:21 (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: "THE LORD HAS SWORN AND WILL NOT RELENT, 'YOU ARE A PRIEST FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK' "), SEE Psalms 110:
Heb 7:22 by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant.
surety = egguos, eng'-goo-os
From G1722 and γυῖον guion (a limb); pledged (as if articulated by a member), that is, a bondsman: - surety. Only used here...
Jesus is the guarantor, the assurance, the power, the source, and the mediator of a better covenant.
SEE Jeremiah 31
Heb 7:23 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. And he died...Heb 7:24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood.
Heb 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
Heb 7:26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us (appropriate- SEE Heb 2:16 For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham), who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; Heb 7:27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. Heb 7:28 For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.
Was JESUS made perfect by the Law?
Was He not complete before His incarnation?
In what manner was He perfected?
Heb 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
Heb 4:15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Heb 8:1 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
Heb 8:2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man.
Communion
Mat 26:26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body."
Mat 26:27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you.
Mat 26:28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Mat 26:29 But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father's kingdom."
Mat 26:30 And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
