Intermittent fasting is the act of abstaining from all solid food for a predetermined amount of time each day, while giving oneself a predetermined allotment of time to eat ( breaking the fast ) known as an eating window. An intermittent fasting works therefore in two stages : The fasting window where someone fasts, and the eating window, which is the time where eating is permitted. Usually people fast for 12 - 23 hours, 16 being the most common. If you fast for 16 hours each day, that leaves you with an 8 hour eating window. If you were to fast for 23 hours, which in my opinion is the most effective amount of time to fast for, it would leave you with a one hour eating window. Although 1 hour of eating may not seem like much, its actually a considerably large amount of time to spend chewing.
