How to build blues scales

Start with a major scale. 12345671
Cut out 4 & 7 = MAJOR PENTATONIC 123561
Start scale on 6 = MINOR PENTATONIC 612356
Add 1/2 step between 2&3 = BLUES 612#2356

OR

Start with a major scale. 12345671
Cut out 2 & 6, = 134571
