slain General Qassem Soleimani ceremony was bombed in Iran
A ceremony in Iran to commemorate slain General Qassem Soleimani was bombed on Wednesday, killing at least 73 people and wounding over 170. No group or nation has claimed credit for the explosions as of this writing.
Iranian state media referred to the attack, which occurred in the city of Kerman about 500 miles from the nation’s capital of Tehran, as “terroristic.” Iranian state television network Babak Yektaparast first reported on the rising death toll.
Despite the fact that Israel has previously attacked Iran to thwart its nuclear development program, it has only ever done so through targeted assassinations, never bombings with high casualties. This suggests the attack was carried out by a different belligerent. Sunni terrorist organizations have executed similar attacks on Iranian civilians in the past, but not in Kerman.
