As chapter 11 of Columbia's The Phantom reveals, Dr. Bremmer's "big surprise" proves to be a ferocious tiger. Unfortunately for Bremmer (Francis MacDonald), however, the cavern below the trap door also contains a convenient side exit for The Phantom (Tom Tyler). A revived Zarka (Angel Cruz) reveals to Professor Davidson that the seventh ivory key, the last piece of the puzzle leading to the lost city of Zoloz, remains in the hands of Tartar, a tyrant, as Zarka describes him, "to be feared by all men." Legendarily fearless, The Phantom blunders into Tartar's (Dick Curtis) domain and is promptly imprisoned. Making yet another daring escape, the jungle hero is caught by one of the guards and as chapter 11 reaches its conclusion, the Phantom appears to be trapped beneath the spiked portal of Tartar's castle.
