Legal repercussions followed the incident, with the assistant director of Midnight Rider, Hillary Schwartz, facing convictions for manslaughter and trespassing. Schwartz was sentenced to 10 years of probation. The film's director, Randall Miller, and executive producer, Jay Sedrish, both pleaded guilty to their roles in the tragedy. Miller received a two-year prison sentence in Wayne County, in addition to eight years of probation, while Sedrish was sentenced to 10 years of probation, mirroring Schwartz's punishment.

In 2014, Gregg Allman took legal action against Director Miller, aiming to prevent the disgraced filmmaker from resuming the project. The case was settled out of court, and the terms of the agreement between Allman and Miller remain undisclosed.
