When the war started, the Maarouf family set off on a perilous journey from Gaza’s Beit Lahia in the north and ended up in a tent camp for displaced Palestinians in the southern city of Rafah. Shady Maarouf, his wife Safeya and their six children gather around campfire outside their tent, braving the cold and darkness.
