Hollywood keeps losing… money. Lots and lots of money. And they’re also losing the streaming war to… YouTube?! Aside from Netflix, Hollywood’s streaming platforms are not profitable. How long can companies like Disney and Warner Bros. hold on before they “get rekt” and go back to Netflix?

Additional Context:
Hollywood’s streaming era has brought a major shift in how films and television shows are produced and consumed. Major studios like WarnerMedia and Disney have moved towards simultaneous releases of their new films on streaming platforms and in theaters. This strategy, while expanding viewership, represents a fundamental change in the entertainment landscape and challenges the traditional cinema-going experience. Streaming platforms, such as Netflix and Disney+, have also been releasing original content, increasing competition for traditional Hollywood productions.

Furthermore, there has been a pivot within the streaming industry itself. For example, Netflix introduced an ad-supported tier, and there’s been an increase in licensing crossovers. Unexpected licensing deals, such as CBS broadcasting the Paramount Network original “Yellowstone,” have become more common. These changes are part of the streaming landscape’s evolution and have an impact on how content is consumed and monetized.

The shift from blockbuster movies to serialized episodic content, high production costs, the advent of streaming services with original content, and changes within the streaming industry itself are key factors contributing to Hollywood’s challenges in the streaming era
